In the acclaimed author’s thrilling new novel, Brennan is at the top of her game in a battle of wits against the most monstrous adversary she has ever encountered. Unexpectedly called in to the Charlotte PD’s Cold Case Unit, Dr. Temperance Brennan wonders why she’s been asked to meet with a homicide cop who’s a long way from his own jurisdiction. The shocking answer: Two child murders, separated by thousands of miles, have one thing in common—the killer. Years ago, Anique Pomerleau kidnapped and murdered a string of girls in Canada, then narrowly eluded capture. It was a devastating defeat for her pursuers, Brennan and police detective Andrew Ryan. Now, as if summoned from their nightmares, Pomerleau has resurfaced in the United States, linked to victims in Vermont and North Carolina. When another child is snatched, the reign of terror promises to continue—unless Brennan can rise to the challenge and make good on her second chance to stop a psychopath. But Brennan will have to draw her bitter ex-partner out of exile, keep the local police and feds from one another’s throats, and face more than just her own demons as she stalks the deadliest of predators into the darkest depths of madness.
Hey everyone, It's Sarah and I'm back with another book review. Today's review is on the seventeenth book in Kathy Reiches, Temperance Breannen series, Bones Never Lie.
The book, Bones Never Lie, is what I would call an interesting read. If you have read any of the previous books or if you love the TV Show 'Bones', which is what the book is based off, then you are sure to enjoy these books. Now since I have never read the other books in the series I didn't quiet enjoy the book as much as I should have. I was missing a lot of elements from the story that would've been there if I had read the whole series, however, I made a mistake of picking up the seventeenth book in the series, but I don't regret it. In my defense, I didn't know until after I had brought the book that it was so far into the series. I didn't even know that 'Bones' was based off a book at all, in fact I was quiet shocked. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the book and if you have been a fan of Reichs for many years than you would enjoy this book as well.
The book starts off right at the beginning of the case, where I guess most murder mystery do, but you are pulled right into the very beginning and things do not slow down. Not only is Dr. Temperance Breannen's life filled with things to do but now she has another case, which is solved in a good way. The whole plot of the mystery keep me interested to the very end and I liked how it turned out. I didn't grow bored while reading and never at any point did the story lose its good pace.
The characters for me are a very different story. Due to me being a fan of the TV show 'Bones' I already had an image of what Temperance Breannen looked like but reading this book I was given a whole new look, I imagined her as someone completely different. I struggled with this because I am attached to the characters in the show, but that isn't too say that Temperance Breannen in the book isn't as good as Temperance from the TV show because she in fact is. Some of the other characters I struggled to understand or picture due to the lack of description, but again this is my fault. The things that these characters are missing would have been revealed in earlier books and aren't needed in this most recent one, for the people who have kept up to date with the series you probably already know these characters well and care about them.
The over-all storyline was good, I enjoyed it immensely and don't really have any problems with it at all. I didn't find it hard to keep up with and it felt like I was sitting down on my couch watching the show, attempting to guess who the killer was or what was going to happen next. It helped me to push through my struggle of confusion in some points and get through the book.
Anyone who is a fan of Katy Reichs shouldn't be disappointed in her latest novel, it is well done and a great crime to read. I look forward to starting at the beginning and catching up when I can.
That's all for now. I'll write you soon.
